a pleading prayer

Oh, God
We need you now more than ever
It is not that atrocities of the world are more than they were yesterday
We know that they have existed in the past,
And unfortunately, they will exist in the future,
But Lord, our hearts are heavier than they have ever been.
Our Burden –
It feels like a load we have never carried before
And we need your help.
The answers we have do not seem to be enough,
The resources we have do not seem to be enough,
And Lord, our hearts are heavy.
Be with us so that we know you are near.
Show us your presence,
So that we can be reminded we are not alone in this moment.
Comfort us so we know,
That violence is not our only bed companion,
That your hand is still near
That you hold us at night
That you are the one who keeps us safe.
Lord, we cannot feel that safety.
Right now, we are mourning for our brothers and sisters
Our siblings around the world,
Our neighbors up the street —
And we are confused by the actions that we see.
We know that they are not of you,
We know they do not represent you in the world,
Lord, we ask for a tangible intervention
We ask for a tangible reminder of who you are, Lord
This is bigger than us,
Intervene.
We know that you have never left,
So Lord, please again remind us that you are near.
Amen.
